Healing from Racial Trauma
"You carry so much— often silently." for too long." on your own." |
Racial trauma is a form of emotional and psychological injury caused by the ongoing impact of racism, discrimination, and systemic oppression. It can stem from direct experiences—like microaggressions, workplace exclusion, or racial profiling—or from the intergenerational weight of witnessing and carrying stories of injustice and survival. For many Black and racialized individuals, these aren’t isolated events. They are cumulative, ongoing, and often silenced by the demand to “stay strong.” This chronic stress can lead to anxiety, depression, hypervigilance, and emotional numbness. Healing is possible—but it requires a space where your full experience is seen, heard, and honored.
- “Sometimes I feel like I have to work twice as hard just to be seen as enough.”
- “I never feel fully safe or understood in my workplace.”
- “I’ve been carrying the pain of my parents’ and grandparents’ experiences too.”
- “I’m tired of pretending that I’m okay.”
- “I constantly question if something was actually racist or if I’m just overreacting.”
- “Even in therapy, I’ve had to explain my identity or justify my feelings.”
If any of these resonate with you, know that your pain is real, and your response is valid. You don’t have to navigate this alone.
How I Can Help
This service is grounded in a 12-session Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) framework, designed to help you identify how racial trauma has shaped your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. While CBT is the foundation, I also integrate tools from mindfulness, DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) to create a healing process that is responsive to your unique needs. We’ll work collaboratively, session by session, to help you move from survival mode to a more empowered, grounded version of yourself.
